It’s very frustrating to buy a controller for the Steam Deck. There are all sorts of compatibility issues and restrictions. The PlayStation controller seems to be the one that best accommodates the variety of inputs that the Steam Deck has, including the trackpad. However, the button layout is nothing like the Deck, which uses the Xbox controller pattern.
These are my impressions, but I may be wrong. Any suggestions?
8BitDo Ultimate is great and has all of those features
No, you have to switch between gyro or analog triggers. Can’t have both at the same time.
Also the 8bit ultimate Bluetooth the button layout is Nintendo and not Xbox (A and B are switched)
The 2.4 ultimate has the Xbox layout but requires the dongle which I find super frustrating.

They sell replacement buttons that are easy to switch
And doesnt have gyro.
You’re right the dualsense is the only controller to give you all those features. I’ve never been a PlayStation gamer but I broke down and bought a dualsense because I wanted all of those features in a controller besides my steam controller (love it but sometimes I need a second joystick or dpad).
The different button glyphs don’t bother me at all. How often do you really look at your controller buttons when you play?
Don’t most games auto detect the ps controller and switch to ps iconography?
This is still uncommon enough that I’m pleasantly surprised when I see it.
I’d say far from most. A lot won’t even let you set it manually in the settings.
In my opinion, buy a PS5 controller. It works great for my Deck, and despite the different button icons they all map to the same thing. If you’re familiar with the default Deck controls then you’ll be fine, only difference is that the physical button icons on the controller are different. Gyro, rumble, LEDs, triggers work and feel great.
Exactly why I wish Valve would make a Controller 2 already, we need a 1:1 experience for docked mode
8bitdo are prefect.
