Seeing the new Steam Deck OLED has got me interested in handhelds again. Looking at getting either the Ally or the Steam Deck. For my use case it’s going to never be docked at all. I already have a Gaming PC with some high specs. I need something for on the go or to use around my house. I want to be able to emulate Switches games and also play things like Persona, Dragon Quest, Yakuza, and games like Sekiro, Lies of P, Elden ring

If you already have a killer PC and are interested in handheld play only you should grab the 512gb OLED model for that amazing screen. Steam Deck is best in class ergonomics too.

Using the Ally docked (or tethered to a wall) to get much better performance is its only real selling point. Deck OLED definitely, if you want to be portable. The Deck OLED actually matches or even beats the Ally in performance at the same 15W power envelope, and gets nearly 2-3 times the battery life while doing it.

I have the SD but I would get the ROG Ally now since I have xbox game pass and I prefer direct support instead of lengthy process to add it. On the other hand, playing outside is much better with the SD due to battery life, but until now I didn’t need to play for long time away from home. To simplify it for you, if you are planing on playing for long time outside go for the SD (especially of you plan to do it during commute), but I you have other than steam or you will be playing in your home or docked then go for the Ally.

Neither of these apply to me. I plan to use it mainly inside my home beside when I take it with me maybe once a month or something. Most of my games are on steam tho

In this case I think you are good with either of them. However, SD will be better for you slightly since you will have seamless transition between your PC & SD.
