Haven’t seen this one yet. My OLED came with the L5 button wobbling around in its compartment.

Going out for a torx screw head tomorrow, I’m assuming this is something I can tighten to the back chassis cover? Every teardown video just removes the back cover off screen so I can’t get a good view of what to expect.

Riveted so you would need to just grab a fresh backplate from ifixit

That said, my l4 or l5 on my oled is a little wobbly too

My back buttons rattle a bit on my new oled also, grabbing a replacement backplate cuz they are cheap and everything seems perfect otherwise

My OLED’s L5 button is also wobbly. Even the slightest pressure on it will depress the button a millimeter or two without actually clicking it fully. It also makes a creaking sound when its jiggling around and it’s driving me crazy.

When I was searching for an answer last week, a few years ago someone said they opened theirs up and tightened the screw next to the loose back button and it worked. I haven’t tried because I don’t have the right screwdriver right now either.

Please let me know if you find a solution. This seems like a really lame reason for me to contact support, but I really want to get this solved.

They must have been talking about the screws on the outside of the shell. The back buttons are secured by rivets internally. It’s been like that since the first Steam Deck models.

Same issue, same button. Any known fixes at this point? Jiggles around like a loose tooth.

Is the only solution to get a new backplate entirely?

I wasn’t able to get the torx to check but going by the other replies that seems to be it.

Upgrading from an LCD I may just take my old backplate. If you don’t have that available there are a few options for backplates but iFixit looks closest to the original.
