Hi! So I just spilled matcha on my mac, only in the trackpad part. Here’s what I did right after the incident:

  • Wiped of the liquid in the surface
  • Made sure absorb the liquid in the crevices thru a qtip

There’s also another thing I did, similar to when my phone got drenched in the water last summer, I sucked the water that might have gotten inside my phone thru the speakers. For my mac, I did the same by sucking in the crevices which led to bits of liquids coming out. I did this until liquid came out.

Right now, my trackpad works fine. Still, I feel anxious.

Is there anything more I can do?

Would leave the laptop off for a day or two (completely off, i.e. shut down) in case there are any residual liquids inside of it. Other than that, not much you can/should do! In the future (if you didn’t do this - I wasn’t sure because you didn’t mention it) - if you spill something on anything electronic, as soon as you can, turn it all of the way off. The more you try to use it (inadvertently or otherwise) while it has liquid on it, the more likely you will cause irreversible damage to it!

With Macs, you have to pray and act fast.

Repairing is not an option, the battery is under the trackpad. The board is designed to be “one piece” so the newer your MacBook, the higher the risk of data loss

Once a short occurs, its matter of time before it slowly does out.

If you move fast enough you can probably connect an HDMI, External Mouse and keyboard and backup to drive immediately (Repair shops and Apple will try to charge more than $500)

I have no advice and hope nothing happens but if it does I pray you have Apple Care Coverage! Best of luck…🫶🏼
