With Macs, you have to pray and act fast.
Repairing is not an option, the battery is under the trackpad. The board is designed to be “one piece” so the newer your MacBook, the higher the risk of data loss
Once a short occurs, its matter of time before it slowly does out.
If you move fast enough you can probably connect an HDMI, External Mouse and keyboard and backup to drive immediately (Repair shops and Apple will try to charge more than $500)
Definitely, the battery thing is just a thing Apple users have to deal with. Another tactic to keep us at the Genuis Bar.
Worst possible outcome is the battery dying mid project and never powering the computer on.
As long as you maintain it properly, $200 for a new battery will feel like you spent your hard earned $1500 on a new Mac. Trust me.

My m1 pro has degraded to 96% after barely 6 months of use, i suppose keeping it plugged in for hours or days contributes to the cause.
However i have noticed that the newer the MacBook, the shorter the lifespan, and more delicate the battery is. Regardless of a 2012 MacBook or 2022, the battery makes Apple money… just as every other part

If you feel like you waste time educating yourself about the technology rather than why you should have the latest device, then you wouldn’t be making such statements. The Air has always been designed to have “less Bezel”= “more screen” to the common eye. 9/10 MacBook owners have or will have an external display. Whether its Apple Studio, an iPad, or a cheap aftermarket foldable monitor… This sounds like a very personal concern and not a community concern lol

One cooks bacon faster
Plug into an external monitor or TV while its still alive, and backup your data, or just to suffice temporarily… MacBooks are friendly with most monitors. External keyboard and mouse will save the other headace you would have from using a partially functioning laptop.
Before you cash out on a repair, consider a newer MacBook, just do research on specifics like GPU’s, Thermal reliability, SSD lifespan, overall reliability etc
Either way, hold on to your MacBook, they are becoming collectors items.
