I want to get the LCD 512 GB Steam Deck, but I have some worries about it

  1. can I put in a 256 GB micro GB card or SD card into it and not worry about storage anymore? Will the loading times drastically increase because the game is on an SD card?
  2. Can I stream my pc games onto the Steam Deck? There are some games I play that aren’t available on steam, or on the deck in general, but I still want to continue playing them.
  3. Will I be limited to only steam games, or can I play other games as well? If so, can you list some places I can get games on the deck?
  4. Is there any better alternative to the steam deck that is under $500 that i should buy instead?

    1. I have a lcd 256gb and played a lot of games (little games and bigger stuff like rdr2) from my sd card, never had any big issues. I didn’t compare both directly but it never bothered me.
    2. yeah the game need to be on steam but you can add it as a non-steam game and stream it that way, works fine.
If it’s not possible for some reason, there’s probably a way to do it on desktop mode with a linux app but never tried that.
    3. In theory you can play anything, even install windows and use it like a regular pc. In practice it’s a linux machine and a very weird one on top of that. It works best and it’s fun to use when you stay on steam, everything else requires some effort (more or less depending on the game).
    4. rog ally ?

Thanks for sharing the link. It helps a lot with that explanation.

About the streaming, I’ve seen some sites explaining how to do it within the desktop steam client on the steam deck. Everywhere i looked it says I need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi as the PC to stream. I’m guessing the answer to this question is a no, but would it be possible to stream from a different network? The only reason is because my laptop has some exclusive games and also some features that i will be missing out on if i only use my Steam deck. And it would be a lot more convenient if i could play my PC games from a different location, as long as my laptop is connected to my router (if that would help on the steam deck side).

    1. You can put mocro sd cards in it, but 256gb won’t be enough to never worry about storage again. 512 GB or 1tb may be a better choice. 256 is fine if you already have it.

    2. Yes, you can either stream over steam if you add non steam games to your steam launcher on desktop or you can set up sunshine/moonlight and stream the whole PC. I like the sunshine/moonlight combo myself.

    3. For steam games, you can buy from anywhere that resells steam keys, such as humble bundle or green man gaming. You can also add other store fronts such as epic games and Ubisoft connect.

    4. Steam deck really is the best bang for buck. There are a couple cheaper options, but they are less supported and have weaker hardware.
