Since getting my IPhone 15 pro max, in store contactless payments have always been painfully slow, they eventually work, but they take up to 30 seconds of holding my phone around the scanner to get it to read it.

Since getting a magsafe case, this has just amplified the issue, unless I hold it millimetre perfect over the scanner, it just said to hold the device near the reader.

I have used a google pixel 6 pro and huawei p30 pro in that same store on those scanners and it’s instant on both and I can even be far away from the scanner.

There should be a setting to boost the strength of the NFC on this device or something, anything.

I’ve googled and found some other people had issues with their 15 Pros and pro maxes too, but has anyone found a workaround for it so it is more bareable?

Just to make sure, are you holding the top of the phone to the terminal? The transceiver is on the top edge, by the camera. I see a lot of people struggle, trying to use Apple Pay by holding the phone flat and center, and it makes sense that if you are doing that with a Pro Max, the transceiver will be farther from the middle since it’s a bigger phone.

If you’re tapping with the top of the phone already, then yeah, you should get Apple to take a look because that’s not normal.

I use my Apple Watch and it’s flawless. I’ve experienced this behavior using a device, most recently a Samsung S23 Ultra.

That’s what’s weird, I know someone with a normal S22 and normal S23 and both do contactless just fine, my pixel 6 pro was rapid with contactless payments as well

As already mentioned, sounds like something may be wrong with the NFC antenna in your phone. Better get it checked out.

Nope it works flawlessly for me. Maybe your NFC chip got damaged by wireless charging, there was a big problem with BMWs killing iPhone 15 NFCs.

Anyway it’s covered by warranty, just get it to an Apple Store and it will be sorted for free.
