All of us are aware, the original battery was terrible. One and a half hour minimum especially on AAA games is a horrible feeling, every video recommended a good battery pack to keep the deck alive and running. Now the OLED is here! so far my experiences with it have been at the minimum: 2 hours and 45 minutes (Minimum battery time was on Dying Light 2: medium settings, 60 fps) To around 5 hrs and 30 mins on lower demanded games. (Henry Stickmin collection reaching max) The new oled battery is stated to be on average 3-12 hrs so with this information at hand, I believe it’s not as necessary as it used to be especially concerdering TDP limits as well, however, I would love to hear y’all’s thoughts on the situation.

The battery on the new Deck (along with the other changes) make a bigger difference than I expected. I’m honestly surprised at how much better the battery life is on here.

Personally when out and about, if I’m carrying my backpack or shoulder bag, I always carry a powerbank just in case. Not even specifically for the Deck, mostly for my phone and/or to borrow people that might need it.

So I’d say, if you own one that isn’t a hurdle to carry around, just do it.

Do you play for longer than the internal battery allows?

    If yes, buy battery pack.

    If no, then don’t.

    End.

Yep this is it. There’s going to be people for whom the OLED’s extra battery life pushes them into the ‘no’ case while they would have been ‘yes’ with the LCD, but it depends entirely on usage. I’m going to continue to carry a battery for longer trips and not for short ones, same as before - I don’t think it’s going to change when I bring it with me, there’s just probably going to be more times I bring it and don’t end up needing it.

Just play on low presets and 720p and lower down your TDP. Off bluetooth and wifi if not using. 40hz 40fps is amazing or 60hz 30fps for more battery savings 👍🏼 Im able to play persona 5 with 800p low preset 40fps 40hz for around 5 hrs

I have never had a problem with the battery and the battery life is pretty amazing. I’ve never needed or used a battery pack. It could be the games that you’re playing or your battery savings. When not plugged in I always set the TDP to 10 and reduce the GPU frequency to at least 1000. You should try some battery saving techniques. Lots of guides out there.
