I just want to post here where some people get it. I was trying to explain to some friends just how different this screen was and they didn’t get it ….

Between the 90hz, OLED, and HDR this screen is nothing short of spectacular. Obviously I’d love to see VRR but i can wait. Also apparently someone in the sub was able to make VRR work and overclock the BoE screen to 130hz - crazy stuff.

I’ve been playing a ton of emulation and roguelites (Cult of the Lamb, Hades, etc) and they look AMAZING in 90hz.

Even Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had me in awe coming from the Launch Edition Switch.

If the screen bugs you at all on the LCD it’s definitely worth the upgrade. It just feels like a gray filter has been taken off of my LCD screen and they increased the size. So clear and vibrant. It’s night and day on visual quality. Not even mentioning the other upgrades.

That’s great! And I remember thinking the same with my LCD deck. Seriously nothing wrong with that. I’m not trying to shit on those who are fine with the LCD - I’m just saying if people were to upgrade I’m sure people won’t regret it.

Did it save your love after your wife took the kids to trek Europe with your mailman?

Just like most upgrades, you won’t notice it until you try it. Then you never go back.

    Remember the good old VCD

I got my Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 OLED last week and I can’t even look at my iPad 10th Gen anymore. It’s so washed out in comparison.

The Steam Deck OLED gives me an urge to also get a OLED monitor for my PC… but I might just wait till that market expands a little more.

Once you go oled on something you will absolutely want oled on everything. And this happens to 80% of people.

To spare people of another “my deck arrived and i found out that …” post:

My deck arrived and the vent smell… Not only it has it (people said it doesn’t anymore) it smells better and more powerful, it will definitely last until steam deck 2

Also the matte screen… It’s so hard to notice I forgot it’s matte and only remembered when i checked online what else it hatld extra, it’s perfect. This sub really likes to complain ig 💀

Is it though? I mean go for it if you dont have a deck already but upgrading just for that. I dunno…

Im willing to bet after 10 minutes of gameplay the better screen wont even stand out anymore if you are immersed enough for most people. Perhaps maybe in the odd cutscene or 2 after the initial wow factor.

Im not trying to shit on it, innovation is always good. But people these days just want, want, want. And if you can afford it, do it by all means. But next year another upgrade will pop up and after that and after that.

Honestly, it depends on the value prop. The regular steam deck is still great. But I would say if you’re in the market for a new one having never had one definitely go OLED.

Upgrading really depends on your use case. I bought the OG 512 model. Loved it but really felt like I was being pulled to my other consoles to play on my OLED TV.

Now I find myself grabbing my OLED deck all the time. 90hz and the color really makes this thing shine. Compare that with the other 30+ improvements like battery life, faster charging, faster WiFi, and the quality of life improvements added up for me so I bought it.

I’m going to sell my old steam deck for $350 so really I’m paying ~$350 for this so it’s a steal. Or if you factor in the loss in value I’m basically breaking even.

The better screen really is that much better but it’s also my first OLED handheld (minus my phone). If you have a switch OLED it’s basically the same screen with HDR and 90hz
