I just want to post here where some people get it. I was trying to explain to some friends just how different this screen was and they didn’t get it ….

Between the 90hz, OLED, and HDR this screen is nothing short of spectacular. Obviously I’d love to see VRR but i can wait. Also apparently someone in the sub was able to make VRR work and overclock the BoE screen to 130hz - crazy stuff.

I’ve been playing a ton of emulation and roguelites (Cult of the Lamb, Hades, etc) and they look AMAZING in 90hz.

Even Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had me in awe coming from the Launch Edition Switch.

If the screen bugs you at all on the LCD it’s definitely worth the upgrade. It just feels like a gray filter has been taken off of my LCD screen and they increased the size. So clear and vibrant. It’s night and day on visual quality. Not even mentioning the other upgrades.

Honestly, it depends on the value prop. The regular steam deck is still great. But I would say if you’re in the market for a new one having never had one definitely go OLED.

Upgrading really depends on your use case. I bought the OG 512 model. Loved it but really felt like I was being pulled to my other consoles to play on my OLED TV.

Now I find myself grabbing my OLED deck all the time. 90hz and the color really makes this thing shine. Compare that with the other 30+ improvements like battery life, faster charging, faster WiFi, and the quality of life improvements added up for me so I bought it.

I’m going to sell my old steam deck for $350 so really I’m paying ~$350 for this so it’s a steal. Or if you factor in the loss in value I’m basically breaking even.

The better screen really is that much better but it’s also my first OLED handheld (minus my phone). If you have a switch OLED it’s basically the same screen with HDR and 90hz
