Probably my biggest let down, not gonna lie…
It’s missing that rich, textured factory smell of the original. Instead the smell is sweeter, cheaper, and does not have me coming back for more.
Don’t order an OLED if this is a deal breaker for you. You’ve been warned.

Yeah they had to cut costs on the smell this time, since the oled is not as cheap as the lcd version.

I really don’t think the fan has anything to do with it. It’s probably the thermal paste, thermal pads, some adhesive, or some kind of mold-release.
day 1 OG Deck vent smell was magical, i don’t think i’ll ever forget it
I disagree that the oled’s smell is sweeter, it has a bitter contingent to it, almost like the cheap factory plastic smell from the case is mixing with it. I do believe it’s the case or the liner. The LCD’s case doesn’t smell like that.
Return it and buy another LCD SD. Problem solved homie.

I never actually smelled the vents on my LCD Deck when it was new. I feel like I missed out. 😥

But back in the day I bought JXD s7800b and it was basically a 2010s android steam deck. It was honestly so fucking cool having an emulation console that I was also able to use as a phone.
But the fucking vents and the case had the same smell that the LCD Steam Decks have that it was kind of a crazy nostalgic experience unboxing the deck, similar experience, similar build. Exact same smell.
It’s crazy to me how many people talk about this haha I guess it’s time to go smell my SD?

Maybe you can try spraying some water inside the vent? jk
It’s like I have a “new vent smell” air freshener in mine, it still smells new to this day and I’ve had it for like 4 months

Fun fact: if you let your LCD sit in the case for 3 months straight without using it, the smell returns!
