Posting the same on the rogally sub to hopefully get both opinions.
I was basically getting ready to buy a steam deck. LCD is fine, and it feels like $50 more for 512 Gb over 256 Gb is worth it.
Most of the reviews I see mainly say that the ROG Ally is more powerful but has Windows. This can be seen as a positive or negative. It didn’t feel worth the extra money to my case.
But now the ROG Ally Z1 is also $450 on sale, so I’m hesitating because it feels like a better deal for the money…

My main use for either device would be casual gaming, almost entirely when traveling. In a plane or hotel room, basically to kill time when it’s most convenient than my laptop because of the space.
Hence why I don’t want to spend more for an OLED or Z1E.
I do feel like the steam deck might have better battery life, and while the Z1 is more powerful, it does need to run Windows which takes resources on its own. But I am more familiar with Windows. I can see how it might offer more tools such as Google Drive to sync files etc…
Am I missing anything, anyone with wise advise on how to decide?
Thanks in advance.

Ally performance isn’t that great while unplugged unless you want your battery life to be ass.

The ROG Ally Z1 standard is the one that has worse performance than the Deck in most games, isn’t it?

Don’t get the standard z1. I know the extreme model is on sell right now for $599 right now. Could also do open box but not sure if you will hit the 450. At that point I would go steam deck

I think I’d rather get a new steam deck than an open box Z1E. The good/excellent conditions are still around $500 or more.
The steam deck also seems to have much better battery life.
      Thanks for your input.

i’d go for the steam deck. better battery life and great for casual gaming on the go. windows on the ally might eat up resources.

The sd card slot is busted on the Ally. Even if not right away, it will be after some time. Dont listen to their copium about this.
