Hi all, I’m hoping you won’t mind me starting a thread to get some basic information on steamdeck.

I have recently started considering getting a steamdeck, but a lot of the info out there confuses me, so turning to this sub for some help as don’t wanna chuck 500 quid down the drain.

I’m considering getting the 512gb Oled version (I’m bent on the bigger screen) and I would appreciate if you could point me towards a good basic guide/must know/FAQ before getting into this. (Anything you think might be useful to someone completely new to portable gaming PCs).

I haven’t been gaming in the last 10 years at all, and have almost completely lost my skills when it comes to meddling with pc games to run properly. So, ideally I would be able to fire up the game and just play, or down the line, do some minor tinkering.

The games I’m interested in would mostly be in the action/survival horror genre (Tomb Raider, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Dead by Daylight, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dark Pictures Anthology, Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk, Mass Effect, Alien, etc., you get the idea).

Would these run perfectly fine on steamdeck? (I appreciate there’s protondb etc, but I find the info confusing without having any previous SD experience)

Would I need to emulate some of the PS games and how easy is it to set up? (Which consoles are possible to emulate?)

Thanks in advance!

    If you respect a few rules the Steam Deck is as easy as a Nintendo Switch to run games;

    - Only buy Verified/Playable games

    - Learn how to lower the frame rate in the quick access menu

    - Don’t tinker too much

    - Don’t read too much Reddit
