Perhaps I didn’t do enough research into the expected performance for some beefier titles that i have in my library, but why is 30FPS the norm?!
Seems like people set the bar for whether a game runs well on deck or not to be 30FPS. That’s ridiculous… 30FPS is peasantry. Aren’t we PC gamers?!

So let me get this straight . You bought a HANDHELD and you expected 60fps on starfield ? Are you out of your mind ?
Try to hit 40fps it’s much better experience then 30fps
Well
30fps was pretty common before 2010
it’s always been common on consoles from like 1990 to 2020
it is ultra common on Switch
Even in the early days of PC gaming 30fps or below was quite common. I remember struggling to run Day of Defeat at 30fps on my old Compaq and I still look back on that time as my personal Golden Age of pc gaming!
Once the 3D era hit 30fps became common. Heck even the PS1 and N64 has its fair share of 20fps games as well. I’d say the current generation and the 6th generation have the highest percentage of 60fps 3D games. 5th, 7th, and 8th generation have a ton of 30fps games
it depends entirely on the type of game you want to play, and learn beforehand the limits of your deck,
If you think that steam deck is not a console to play at 30 fps and you hate 30 fps, let me tell you that you made the wrong purchase, and no, stable 30 fps except in shooters is not as horrible as you want to make it seem. Alan Wake 2 in quality mode at 30 fps stable on PS5 and I have played many next gen games like this and it is enjoyed perfectly, “I am not a peasant” and I do not suffer, only a fanatic and a PC fanboy would say that he cannot play at 30 fps and it must not be tolerable, good luck with that then
Yes, games outside of racers and shooters are perfectly playable at 30FPS. The Assassin’s Creed games come to mind. Games with a third person view and slow/deliberate animations.
30FPS is peasantry. Aren’t we PC gamers
Sir this is a PC handled. It draws under 30w, why are you comparing it to PCs with 500w PSUs?
30 FPS is accepted because it always has. Even new console games are targeting 30fps still. The SD hits 60/90 FPS on older titles just fine. You’re expecting Starfield, that runs 30 FPS on the flagship XSX to run 60 FPS on your handheld using like a 1/10 of the power draw?
Ye considering the games it can play at 30fps it’s damn good for example last of us and resident evil 4 remake, both beefy games for a handheld 30-40fps for me on them for a portable it certainly acceptable for what you get.
I hate people like this mannnn … spends money n doesn’t do research before buying and then complains about the purchase. CLOWNERY LOGIC AT BEST
Really… I wish I had as much money as these clowns if they can just throw money like that
Framepacing under SteamOS feels great. The new 30fps/60hz lock is wonderful. It feels like a console tailored 30.
You’re talking about a handheld device that uses like 25W of power??? We’re you expecting 4090 performance from a handheld?
If you’re an actual PC gamer then you should know the limits of the hardware you’re purchasing.
I have one hour train rides. If I can play CP2077 while in a tunnel on the train then I’ll take that than no game at all.
Also, stable 30 FPS is fine, and also I bet my PC can kick your PCs ass, and my dad can beat your dad up too or something.
It’s a portable system, if they did a version that nailed 60 fps at high settings, it would probably have a 10 minute battery life.
Don’t start it.
I had to argue with people here that 19 fps is NOT in fact playable.
I mean 19 isn’t, yeah, but 30? 30 has been the acceptable bar for playable for a while now.
For some things it is.
>Aren’t we PC gamers?!
wrong sub
this is why I just don’t play the newest games on it unless they are properly optimized like Lies of P. a majority of games made will run at 60fps on steam deck but nobody should expect it to run most new games well.
