Tried to install Emudeck. The install seemingly didn’t work although I dont know why, as first I have to re-execute the application from the files everytime I want to load the menu, which although I’m not familiar with Linux, no other app on my steam deck requires to I’m assuming is a glitch of some kind. On top of this the steam rom loader refuses to launch and doesn’t appear to exist anywhere in my filss, despite emudeck being convinced I’ve already installed it.

So I assumed it was an install issue and decided to delete and then reinstall emudeck… to which everytime it loafs up the exact same data and doesn’t actually reset emudeck despite me attempting to delete the files off my steamdeck… the exact same issues where present and seemingly nothing I can do will reset emudeck so I can just try again and avoid whatever issue caused it to act like a buggy mess.

I haven’t found anyone with this exact issue, and all fixes for similar issues just didn’t work or wherent applicable. Is there any easy fix for this?

Because I swear to god I get why people bully Linux users now, I just need an easy fix to get this thing to run properly. At this point downloading each emulator seperately is just the more convenient option.

Alt Account 3, there are definitely threads in this reddit that talk about Emudeck and getting it setup. Some of them covering oddball things that happen to stop it from finding your roms and everything. I wrote in some of those topics.

My first time trying to get it setup ended up with me factory resetting my deck since I hadn’t done anything other than install some games from steam.

You’ll have some special troubles with getting it to recognize roms on a sd card if you do that. Unless they tweaked the script, I fixed that one by typing in the directory for it to look for the roms manually. Capitalization mattered.

Please search on here for Emudeck stuff. Gotta be some help on here for ya.

Follow the instructions step by step on the install directions. I know it used to be required to be in desktop mode and to close steam while doing the install and looking for the roms. A keyboard and mouse would help you significantly during setup if you have one and a way to plug them into the deck.

Did you follow a guide on how to uninstall Emudeck? Maybe you did something wrong.

How to uninstall: Inside Emudeck at the bottom should be an option called “Uninstall”. Click on that and it should uninstall.

If that doesn’t work go to this link: https://github.com/dragoonDorise/EmuDeck/blob/main/uninstall.sh And download the “uninstall.sh”. This is Emudeck’s github.

In Desktop mode: drag the file from your Downloads folder to your Desktop. Double-click it. This script should ask you what you want to uninstall, type Y or N to anything that applies. Done.

What you downloaded previously was a script that installed Emudeck. This script here just uninstalls it. I don’t know if you know what sh script are in Linux. But you probably don’t care about me explaining it to you right now.

If that doesn’t fix it, let me know.

(How did you try to uninstall Emudeck before? Did you just delete the Desktop icon or something?)

I had that issue with steam rom manager not installing from emudeck, what I did was get the standalone installer from github or something, that was the one hiccup I ever had with emudeck but it sure was a head scratcher

I had this issue as well, all I had to re install emudeck itself to get it to pop up

Follow the retrogamecorps guide. Impossible to mess up if you have a semi-working brain.

Oh, and don’t try to download and set up every emulator individually. If you fucked this up, you’ll fail miserably.
