I’ve seen a few pictures on this sub of Steam Decks being utilized for odd purposes, such as for the military and construction. This made me curious. What other obscure use cases are Steam Decks being utilized for?

It’s a Linux computer with a built in controller so it can do anything a laptop can, its just pretty novel due it’s intended use case. That said, I have used it to update the firmware on my 3d printers and I regularly use it to control a laser cutter.

Before I even try on Linux… Are you on Linux running SeratoDJ via proton or you have SD with Windows?

Same here! I haven’t brought it to a proper show yet but I’ve made a few sets using Mixxx on the Steam Deck with my Hercules DJ4Set & it works like a treat! Haven’t had any dropouts or anything of the like so I’m hoping to take it out for a spin soon.

I am a part of a high school robotics team (FRC team 2648). And we’re planning on driving our robot with it. Obviously as a joke, but still.

I’ve seen someone using it for astrophotography, also seen pictures from Star Wars Galaxies Edge at Disney controlling the robots.

I use a custom controller for Sound Voltex and an L-TEK dance pad to play DDR like games (crypt of the Necrodancer / Cadence of Hyrule / Outfox)

Portable firefox with dual touchpads. Not that I’m doing that, it just would be a ridiculous thing to buy to do that.
