I ordered a 1 tb non-LE and I am wondering what I should expect from a “perfect” Samsung panel. Is it expected to have mura on a normal Samsung OLED display? I would probably return my device if mine has noticeable mura knowing that it’s possible to have a display without it.

I think you’d notice it more on the menus. If u haven’t noticed it there then it’s probably fine.

Don’t have any of those on my 512 oled.

Last device that had cloudy/mura screen was a PSVIta like 10 years ago.

Tbh, I don’t see how any of the current displays can be free from it entirely, since it shifts about depending on display hz. Just seems to vary in how strong it appears and what range of brightness it appears at. None of the games I played for the first few days had any visible mura at all, but since then I’ve tried a few which really suffer from it.

I still don’t know what to look for. I checked on YouTube but there is not that much about it either.

My advice, dont think too much about screen quality. Unless there’s a dead pixel, dont worry about it.

I basically had to run an HDR screen test video at max brightness in a pitch black room to see it. It’s my biggest gripe with OLED technology (I tend to prefer uniformity over deep blacks), but so far hasn’t been an issue at all in normal circumstances. Has just as much mura as my Samsung phone.

I think the term Mura is being misused as I’m not seeing splotchy panels reported, the Samsung panel just seems a bit grainy on solid colour backgrounds but I can’t say I’ve seen it in games yet tbh. Even in menus you kind of have to look for it IME.

I wonder what screens review units had as I’ve not seen it mentioned at all in official channels? You’d assume Samsung since they were all non-LE but if they were pre-production units then who knows?

I have this question too since I missed out on the LE and my 512 OLED definitely has noticeable mura, especially in things like Witcher 3 menus.

I was playing the Witcher 3 on both my 1TB OLED and LE decks while waiting for valve support to get back to me. The menus definitely show that problematic grey. The green tint and graininess was really apparent on the standard deck. On the LE the greys are very uniform and smooth. There’s some slight banding but it looks a lot better than the Samsung display.

The standard deck is being returned to valve and my LE will be getting replaced for dead pixels. Hopefully the uniformity on my replacement LE is just as good or else I’ll regret sending it in. It would be nice if ifixit offers both the Samsung and BOE panels
