I’m thinking of buying a steam deck exclusively for emulation, I mainly play my AAA games on my PS5 and I wanted to know if is worth it just for that reason

I want to emulate from GB to PS2

    I’ve had literally 30 different models of retro handhelds over the last four years, Anbernic, Retroid, Powkiddy, etc, and then I got my Steam Deck. Despite the size, I find myself playing on it more than any of the others that I still have, and I’ve started selling a few as a result. There’s just no compromises, I can run whatever games or shaders or enhancements or whatever I can think of, even Switch emulation works amazingly well. Even if I want a fancy Emulation Station interface like the cheaper Linux based handhelds, I can use Retrobat for that(I’m a Windows user).

    And then I can turn around and spend two hours faffing about in a modern game like Teardown… even if emulation is your main jam, don’t underestimate the allure of PC gaming in your hands.

    there is no point in buying a deck for emulating things up to ps2. any modern snapdragon phone with 8xx/8 gen x chips has been able to do it with upscaling since almost 2 years at this point.

    hell, a handheld with a snapdragon 8 gen 1/2 was recently released and it has way better battery efficiency than the deck while doing the same emulation as the deck for the same price.

    you buy a deck for the other things the deck can do.

    Check out Retro Game Corps on Youtube. He reviews tons of handhelds with a strong focus on emulation. I have a feeling some of the handhelds he covers might be better value for your use case than a Steam Deck.
