A guy in my lab built a real time translator using out of the box iOS stuff. It takes what you say, pastes it into a chat. Translates the chat into the language of the other persons chat and then reads it in that language. It’s pretty fast. Maybe a 5 second delay.
Good. So the scam callers and I can finally understand each other. Can’t wait to tell them to FO in their language of choice.
I kinda don’t get why this is big news other than it’s on a mobile device. Call centers have been doing versions of this for multiple years now.
The chat version of it has been really bad. We had our national flag carrier Finnair try that. They used foreign reps through a translation service. The outcome was so bad it caused them a PR disaster after screenshots of completely nonsensical stuff emeged.
Nice now I don’t need to learn Japanese to get a Japanese girlfriend. That was the only thing holding me back, clearly.
Why do you want a Japanese girlfriend?
Me: “Hey, I would like to order a pizza.”
Translated: “Hey, I will kill you! And dishonor your widows by making them gather wood!”
“You kick my dog”
I haven’t heard that name in ages…
I am excited about this, but mainly for the subtitles for phone conversations even when using my native language.
Live translations are honestly here a lot sooner than i ever expected.
I always thought those instant translators in sci fi would be something i might see in my lifetime.
Seems like they might even be commonplace by the time my son is an adult, which is a wild thing to think about.
I wonder if it’s as good as Bixby.
Samsung + software is like oil and water
This is why samsung is better than Apple iphones because they know how to innovate. Apple, on the other hand, doesn’t care about their products but focusing taking as money from their customers.
