Serious Question. I can’t think of any good reasons for such decision by valve. What are your thoughts?

The 256gb model just became the 512gb model with the new OLED screen. What’s not upgraded?

Product differentiation. Previously the only thing that made the different price points are the storage size. Now they are basically saying if you want a better refreshed Deck, you need at least a midtier one, if you want the etched glass and improved carrying case with more storage, you need to fork over for the most expensive one.

Mind you that the refresh parts likely costs them more money to manufacture, they might not be able to hit those low price points with the OLED and other improved parts. When the Deck launched, they’ve already stated that the US$ 399 pricepoint was “painful” to get to but they had to in order to compete for the masses.

    SIMPLE:

They cant sell the OLED at the price of the LCD one. But didnt want to increase the price.

Also: Most people will now NOT buy the cheapest deck. Most people will go with an OLED version. Which means more money.
