Ok while I 100 percent agree the OLED version is way better I think people should not be comparing them.

First off the OLED has a much better screen and battery life with a few other minor benefits. However when compared to the 64 GB model which cost $430 new now to the 512 OLED model which cost $690 it is a difference of $260 or roughly 60 percent more. Add on $30 for a 500gb SD card and it’s now a $230 different or 53 percent more.

I personally think a lot of people including myself don’t see it worth the price difference. While a nice screen and battery life is nicer I find myself never playing over 2 hours straight undocked and have not come close to running out of battery so an increase means no difference. Plus at the end of the day the games are really what matter and both have the same performance.

In addition if you live in an area with higher sales taxes like NS at 15 percent it makes the price difference even more vast.

I got a 64GB model for $450 and don’t regret the purchase. Also you may find some really good deals now on non OLED decks.

Note: All prices are in Canadian dollars and not American. Now duke it out in the comments.

A slightly bigger screen (not by much), larger SSD (1TB), 90Hz refresh rate and it weighs less! Are very tempting upgrades, obviously considering it, which is why I’m here.

But $649, I did not plan for this expenditure this year.

How much would the previous 512gb model sell for?

Meh I’m good. It’s nice for new folk! But if you already own a deck I would wait for the second version. I also have a rog ally! And that 1080p screen is gorgeous! And it’s also quite a bit more powerful.

The mental gymnastic to convice yourself that the new model is not way better than the older one is incredible in this sub lol

Couldn’t disagree more. I wouldn’t buy a Steam Deck without an OLED screen, and I wouldn’t buy the 256GB SSD either.

I’d go with a Legion Go long before I’d add a second Deck to my collection just for a 7% increase and OLED.

I’m happy with my deck. All these whiny little over dramatic bitches in this sub today got me rolling. I’ll wait for the Deck 2. Fohh

I’m happy w my deck, I got the 64 gb model and added 1tb storage about three months ago, the only issue I have is led screen bleeding from one of the corners but honestly I use my steam deck on docked more often than not.

It’s VERY tempting to sell my steam deck and use that money to buy the oled model but even then I’d have to spend 300$ more for what I essentially already have, since I rarely take my deck out to places. I’d only do it for the novelty but tbh the economy is not made for that rn so realistically the most reasonable option would be to keep my steam deck

I view the oled model as what it should have been from the beginning. So for me this is the beginning. I haven’t bought one yet but this is a step in the right direction in my mind.

New to the steam deck and you want the best performance? Oled is for you. Already have a Steam deck? Then it’s probably not worth the money unless you’re looking for the limited edition version

Yeah I think the most polarizing jump is for the 64GB users like you and me. As soon as I saw the OLED I wanted it… but yeah $300 CAD more than what I paid + whatever hit I take when selling it is rough. I think I’ll just keep thugging it out until my unit dies or the SD2 comes out.

Pretty much my thoughts. I’m fine waiting until there’s a meaningful difference performance-wise. For now I’m good with what I’ve got and using a more powerful device to stream to it when I want to play something more demanding.

Yeah for someone who’s struggling financially but wants the product, buying a certified refurbished 64GB model is a great deal! 401$ CAD where I live versus 792$ CAD for the cheapest OLED is a huge difference even if you consider the price of an SSD upgrade.

To be honest I got my steam deck about few month ago just to play some game that I don’t normally wanted to play on pc (rpg games like dragon quest or persona 5), it just shocked me that they chose to upgrade the screen / battery/ fan but not the actual spec of the device, for all these it only worth for those who haven’t got a deck yet, for those who already got a deck if they going to get this one it the exact same thing but the screen (biggest change)

The new deck start with 550$ and the old lcd deck is on sale 64 gb 350$ / 512gb 450 it gonna be gone soon and they only will keep selling the lcd 256gb deck, get the 64gb right now if you don’t care about the Oled screen, get the oled one if you don’t care about your wallet and they probably gonna release an full upgraded steam deck 2 in another 1-2 year

I just played Dead Space Remake and it was definitely NOT enjoyable but in the good way

An spec upgrade right now would be costly and it wouldn’t be that big of an upgrade (I would say 30% vs Steam Deck LCD) and yeah, some games would be now playable like Returnal and others would be able to be played without that much FSR but then developers will have harder to optimize and in general put back developers to bother in doing so and people in buying due that

4-5 years between Steam Deck 1 vs 2 seems reasonable for me

I’m gonna hold out until a vastly improved 2.0 comes out years down the line… Or if valve has a swap program for a REASONABLE price then I’ll go with this steam deck “1.5”. Wish they used self tapping screws on the current gen like they do with this new one. Wtf.

I’m very very tempted, but I alr upgraded to 1TB SSD and even picked up a portable OLED to dock to. Had my deck for a little over a yr now w/ no issues.

I’ll just wait until next year, see if there’s another refresh lol. And even if there isn’t, there’ll be a sale somewhere down the line.
