Am I the only one that feels like I’ve been falsely advertised to in light of the recent announcement of the SteamDeck OLED? I purchased my SteamDeck on September 22, literally the day after Valve’s Pierre-Loupe Griffais had that interview with The Verge and CNBC, saying not to expect a faster Steam Deck “…in the next couple of years.” Would it not be unreasonable to assume that that would also include a refresh like the SteamDeck OLED that is launching next week? Yes, they share the same APU and in benchmarks perform identical, but you could argue that the new one is ‘faster’ because it has WI-FI 6E instead of 5, or a ‘faster’ screen that is 90hz instead of 60hz.

Since that interview, lots of outlets like CNET, IGN, PCMAG, Gamespot, etc., made similar articles around late-September referencing the same interview/sentiment about how there likely wouldn’t be a new version in the near-future. I made my SteamDeck purchase with that information from Griffais in mind. I just think it was a bad move on Valve’s part to say one thing and do another. I know I’m super biased right now but just needed to get this off my chest.

Anyone else who purchased around this time (September/October), do you feel like you’ve been misled by Valve and/or other media outlets, or not?

Faster memory? Doesn’t that mean it will be actually faster to a minor extent?

Well, they said it quite clearly thst it wasn’t coming for a few years (with more power) and that they were looking into revisions of the most common complains right now. Seems fair to me

I feel exactly the same way and more. It’s not just the misleading statement. It’s also that the price of the 256gb I purchased is now even lower than it was on sale.

I agree with you, but this is the fault of the news and not on Valve even tho I joke about steam deck coming out way earlier.

Articles nowadays are put together with AI and interviews are not thought well enough to convey a clear message. You still have a good device, if you truly want OLED, you should sell your steam deck and buy the new iteration.

It’s kinda sad, sure. No one knew when the update would come, and only now it seems safe to assume that this will be a biannual thing. It’s like you bought a iPhone 14 right before the iPhone 15 was released.

It’s still a great phone though. I mean handheld gaming PC.
