I don’t now why it’s taken me this long to realise but the steam deck might be the perfect PC I’ve been looking for.

I almost exclusively emulate games and I’ve been wanting something I can put under my TV as a general emulator and importantly wii emulator.

Just wanted to hear from peoples experience how is the wii emulation experience? I’ve seen videos so I know I can setup with emudeck, connect a sensor bar etc. I’m familiar with dolphin and basic setup.

My main question here is how is the experience? How seemless is it? Do wii motes connect quickly and reliably? Is it a pain switching between wii motes and controllers for other systems? How high can the wii be reliably upscale? Any issues I should be aware of? Is it so simple that my wife could turn it on and play a game with little to no understanding once I’ve done the initial leg work?

Wii emulates very well. I’ve played Mario kart, Metroid prime, paper mario, and Mario galaxy 2. You can use the trackpad or gyro as Wii mote sensor. Unsure how it would translate to on tv play though. I’m sure you could make the right stick of whatever controller you used as the Wii mote sensor

Dolphin runs really well in my experience. Ive had no problem upscaling to 1080p. Pushing to 4k is too far but 1440p is doable with my limited testing.

My wife loved the Wii during her childhood. So I bought Real Wii Remotes. I bought this sensor and it’s working great. It’s just plug and play.

OriGlam USB Wired Wii Sensor Bar, Replacement Infrared IR Ray Motion Sensor Bar, Replacement USB Wired Infrared Ray Sensor Bar for Nintendo Wii and Wii U Console $9 on Amazon

Setting up the Wii remotes are very simple. On Dolphin , under controller configuration, select “Real Remote” and “continuous scanning”. Hold 1 and 2 until it pairs . And you’re set.

You only need the sensor for games that require it.

    Games run amazing !

Great to hear thank you! I have an original wii we can play but the resolution is so bad on a modern TV it gives me a headache. Can’t wait to get back into it with a steam deck
