So as a kid, I had one of those garbage 3rd party controllers for the PS2. And since then, I have only used 1st party controllers bc of my MadKatz fear.
But I recently picked up the 8BitDo SN30 Pro and the Pro 2 and GOOD GOD these are great controllers. Too early to tell, but very well might be my favourite of all time.
They feel great, they’re affordable and — most importantly — they have a D-pad that doesn’t make me want to put the controller through a shredder.
If anyone is looking for a good controller for the steam deck, you could do a lot worse than these
All 3rd party controllers have improved over time. I bought a wireless power a controller for my switch for $15 just to have a backup. The buttons are loud and there’s no rumble, but I don’t really see any other downsides. I even hooked it up to my steam deck and it worked. With a little bit of tinkering.
And they make also drop in PCB replacements for old controllers to turn them in 8bitdo controllers :)
I am also curious as a monkey about their mechanical keyboard, ordered one and will ship later this month.
Well, they might be better than MadCatz…
