Like half of my feed to day is about “oh noooo, I’ve just bought old version and today they announced OLED versions, I am sooo desperate and unlucky”.

I have mine for a year already and don’t give a real damn about OLED version right now. What I give a damn about is scrolling hundreds of posts that state exact same thing over and over again.

Early adopters and people who bought it a year ago shouldn’t care at all you’re right, but people who bought their first Deck a month ago or people who’s return window expired when this got announced should be rightfully pissed off. Not only they don’t get to have the better model, but their handheld just got devalued by Valve.

Welcome to the 2020s, where new electric gadgets are released all the freaking time. Why would anyone be pissed at Valve? They were the ones that waited over a year to buy the Steam Deck.

All Decks get devalued the moment you bought it. It’s a device to use, not an investment. Valve doesn’t owe you “resale value”.

I actually decided to wait to buy one after seeing the news on model 1030, so part of this is being an informed consumer to know when a bad time to buy something is….

Yep. Sometimes being informed just allows you to avoid having to asking redundant tech support questions. Sometimes it can save you hundreds of dollars…

Actually, there are two types of reactions: those who have an emotional connection with their devices (a lot of people in this sub) and those with a more materialistic view. For those with a materialistic view, it’s obviously bad news. It means their device has lost value, and they weren’t warned that it would happen overnight.

I hear ya but for a different reason. I scroll past half this sub coz I have zero interest in Balduers Gate 69 or Starfried or whatever the hell these AAAAAAAAAAAAAA games are called. I bought a Deck to get away from that culture. Fortunately, the Deck ticks off every point I needed ticked off. It’s just great, and the new Deck will be great, too.

These things are natural and dependant to the ebb and flow of changes.

What doesn’t change, however, are the complainers. Maybe you need your own megathread to complain about posters?

Mods, just disable the option to create any new posts and have every thing under one giant megathread. That way OP doesn’t have to scroll.

Yeah that would be nice, but I understand that mods want to leave a day or to for people to whine before banning these useless posts.

It’s so silly. When you buy a product, you decide whether you want to spend the money to get the offered product. Just because later a new product got announced, doesn’t change the deal! No matter what device you buy, it will always be superceded by a new one, tech goes forward! Doesn’t mean the old one is obsolete
