Full disclosure. I have the OG 512GB Steam Deck. I will be trying my luck for the new Limited Edition OLED version.

Funny enough, when I thought about what a Steam Deck 2 would have before the OLED announcement - it was everything that they just announced: better screen, battery life, better WiFi, etc. and they gave us all that AND more.

Given that this is just the mid-gen update it really has me excited for that a true second gen would be. Will we have a VRR-enabled 144hz OLED? Even bigger battery? Lighter? Upgraded chip with 20w TDP instead of 15? Do we have a larger 1080p or more resolution? Will there be an integrated eGPU dock? Who knows?! But if this is how they handle mid-gen upgrades this is SUPER exciting.

Not taking away from the new OLED but if there were ANYTHING now you’d want or expect in a Steam Deck 2, what would it be for you now that you know what’s on the table?

more of a look up to the sky and wish really hard thing but

    thunderbolt

thunderbolt which would allow us to dock to an external GPU for supercharged desktop performance, and the experience we all know and love on the go. THIS would be a true “switch” experience and a lot of people wouldn’t need anything else

    Personally, I would like…

… more RAM. I know a gaming console doesn’t necessarily need more than what we already have, but with 32 gigs, I could make the SD my primary computer. That’s the amount I need for my hobby stuff, so :)

… One extra USB-C connector, preferably at the bottom. I noticed that when I use my SD docked, the weight of the cable + the dock pulls it too much. I’m afraid that it puts unnecessary strain on the top connector. A bottom connector would be at a different angle, and probably could handle it better.

I’m not sure about 1080p or a 144Hz display though. It may be an overkill to have such high framerate, and while the larger resolution is nice, I’m not 100% sure it worth it.

(And to be honest I’m a bit surprised about 144 itself. I know it’s a standard, but why not something that’s a multiple of 30, like 90 or 120?)
