500€ to play latest tech games is very affordable compared to what it costs on PC. Alan Wake 2 was a great example of that when people with 7 year old rigs lost their minds.
That’s not playstation being cheap. That’s Nvidia and AMD price gouging their customers. Intel’s GPUs are starting to catch up and they’re reasonably priced for the most part.
And when the light on the controller is on meaning the microphone is actually ON! Way to crap the bed on that one Sony. Also, battery life isn’t the best on the controller as well.
I like Dave2D’s comparison of this refresh to the Steam Deck wherein both Sony and Valve are in unique positions where their dominance in their own market space should mean they can afford to reduce costs for their hardware since losses are subsidized by their marketplace anyway.
Valve’s the only one doing it, while upgrading the Deck OLED with a better screen, better APU, better fan, and more battery life. Sony on the other hand is just resting on its laurels.
While offering a significantly trashier service on PC vs. Gamepass.
Like damn, Streaming only? In a first world country where throttling and data caps is still a thing? Didn’t they learn anything from Google’s run with Stadia?
If they made a version in a minimal rectangular box, I’d buy that. I really don’t understand why it has to look like a tube of toothpaste someone grabbed on one end
Call me back when it’s cheaper
Call ME back when there’s more than like two exclusive titles I’m kinda interested in playing but not enough to spend PS5 money to do it.
We want:
Gamers are genius.
We want:
Ftfy
Thanks!

For the hardware you get playstations are cheap. Look at the price of modern graphics cards.

Don’t forget the crypto miners causing an explosion in demand. They’re often willing to pay more than gamers are.
And doesn’t look ridiculous

Well technically Valve kept the exact same price tiers, but the upgrade is much more substantial.
When Nintendo did something similar a few years back they charged $50 extra. And speaking of dominance in their relative space…
?!?
For the form factor, the 7nm reduction to 6nm supposedly means less heat to deal with.
Don’t forget raising the price of a PSN subscription pretty significantly.

Cheaper? Call me when there’s games worth playing on it.
You’ll be waiting a long long time. It’s not even priced at what the market will bear
I’m sure it costs less to make, but that’s not what you asked for.

Imagine buying a gaming console for aesthetics. 🤣
The Xbox series X would be perfect for you
At least in terms of the main chipset it might not be cheaper. Things are weird and costs at TSMC have been going way up the last few years.
