Alcoholic here. Was drinking everyday since I was a teen (around 16) for almost ten years. Went down a really dark path of almost being homeless, and having to sell my PC to drink and pay rent.
Thankfully nearly all my games were purchased thru Steam and couldn’t be sold or I probably would have lost them too. And my saves are hopefully still out there in the cloud somewhere.
Anyways after almost killing myself, I started to get help and started attending AA though, I was still drinking and fucking up. Then I met another chick who happened to bring her Steamdeck one day and I was amazed. I had heard of it before but seeing it and playing with it in person was something else.
That night I did a lot of research, and being able to access my library again – and saves, I had to have one. I eventually wanted to get a PC again but this seemed like a much more obtainable goal – and was absolutely worth the price. I then set a goal to stop drinking completely, and put every dime I saved from not buying alcohol into a separate savings. This was the first real goal I set in a long time. And I haven’t had a single drink since setting that goal. I know it isn’t much but I am proud of it, and I’m going to more meetings than ever. Being over 4 months sober is the best I’ve felt in a long time.
So now, I am just $50 shy from the cheapest model and had a couple questions.
(1) Can I use my wallet funds with a debt card to purchase it? I have about $20 in my Steam wallet.
(2) I’ve made it this long…and I’M DYING to play Rimworld and my old Stardew farm again… but should I just save a bit longer for a bigger storage model? I was set on the 64GB because I play mostly smaller size games. But I don’t want to regret that later. But I miss my games :( is the 64GB really that bad?

I got mine used locally. But you could also look at the refurbished at steam shop and use your steam wallet. If you have a lot of steam trading cards you can also sell them on the market before that’s what I did to get the Docking station cheaper.
Congrats on 4months! I wasn’t an alcoholic but I stopped drinking alcohol in 2011 because i always blacked out and did crazy stuff. One time it was just enough because it was connected to my spouse. So I stopped totally. One reason for me was I want to be in full control of my doings and senses.
Steam sale is just 9 days to wait. Also if you want to get games you can try Steamgifts website. I use this since 8 years. You can also pm me if you want steam friends or just tipps about the stuff I wrote. (Same nickname on steam)

I recommend getting the 64GB version and putting a SSD in yourself. It will be cheaper than buying storage from Valve. SD Carts are too slow and it’s only marginally cheaper.
64GB alone is basically unusable.

Awe thank you! Do stores have Steam giftcards there? Because I do know that EU Steamcards work in the US. I used to do a site that I did surveys on and could get steam cards from. It sucked but I got like $20 out of it after 45 days or so. But it paid on EU steam cards.
It was actually nice though because I’d get a $10 EU Steam card but when I redeemed it was give me like $11.50 USD.
What games do you enjoy playing?
Rimworld , Stardew, Slay the Spire, and Factorio have the most play time. Oh and New Vegas. I got really into a game kinda like Factorio, but in space, shortly before I had to sell my PC to survive. It was called Dyson Sphere Program, was pretty damn cool.
Rimworld and Stardew will be my first games I get back into :D
I just wanna say congrats on getting sober that’s a huge achievement! In regards to your questions. Yes you can use steam credit in your wallet to pay for a deck and also they just released an oled deck and made the lcd 256 gb deck $400 now so I would grab that instead!
- Yes you can use your wallet and debit card for the transaction. Think of it as your buying a game on Steam, they let you use funds and a card to add more to complete the transaction.
- Extra storage doesn’t hurt, but I think some people either add storage through a micro sd or add more storage manually by taking apart their deck and putting it in. Wouldn’t recommend taking apart your deck unless you know what you’re doing. It’s completely your call for storage

Omg that’d be amazing. I actually already own Terraria :D but I could def use the codes towards the Steamdeck.
