They complain so much about CPU performance, comparing every Snapdragon chip to the Apple A17 bla bla bla. In the real world, who uses these much power in a chip anyway? Heck, even midrange chips nowadays are very much capable.

power correlates with longevity, apple can support their devices longer because they don’t do midrange SOCs.
more powerful SOCs will absolutely outlast midrangers from the same generation.
That’s the reason I don’t see basically anyone using the P8P in 7 years. It’s not even impressive by today’s standards and won’t really be able to run their advertised AI stuff on device, that’s gonna get released on the playstore over the next few years.
Well built phones can easily last 5+ years. I’ve been using my OP5T for 6 years now. It was my main for 5+ years. It is not slow by any means, even now. In fact, for most normal users, it would still seem fast enough for daily use. Camera and battery would be the only issues. Similarly, if the battery of P8P lasts (or swap it out) and if they release proper software updates that don’t slow down the device, it can absolutely last 7 years. It might become a second phone for them, or their kids can use it.
That and planned obsolete by ending software support. SOCs have nothing to do with it. Anything after the S20 is pretty much overkill for mobile platforms until they increase the size of ROM storage and release larger sized games.
wrong I can bring my SD8G2 to it’s limits when using many camera features and hearing music in the background, maps navigation etc.
saying everything is overkill now is just wrong
