They complain so much about CPU performance, comparing every Snapdragon chip to the Apple A17 bla bla bla. In the real world, who uses these much power in a chip anyway? Heck, even midrange chips nowadays are very much capable.

Its not even just 𝕏 (twitter) Other Social media platforms are like this aswell.

I have an S23 ultra and I STILL haven’t used the CPU to the fullest and don’t think I ever will, closest I’ll get is for the camera, small games, or file compressing/transfers, I generally don’t see the point, I went from a S10 exynos and tbh that was powerful and still is…

I didn’t buy my phone for the speed of the CPU… I bought it for the camera and convenience,as well as the versatility.

Cpu performance is not really the problem…all flagships from last 4 years can do 4k recording…editing… multitasking… cooling however is the main problem…sustained high cpu/gpu use will heat up the phone and then start throttling…newer chipsets are more efficiënt so will heat up less every year under same load…ofcourse for (newer)emulator you want the fastest possible but for games like genshin impact… running on highest settings 60fps is only possible for like first 15 min…

Everyone will, even without knowing. Not only are the chips getting more powerful, they are getting efficient as well. You will only notice that lack of power only when the the phone starts lagging or the whatever task you do takes long to process. Besides developers will always find a way to utilize this extra performance.

The same could be said for any social network, the difference is that most people sort reddit by what’s hot.

This is the pot calling the kettle black. Android users seem obsessed with the opinion of Apple users for whatever reason. Apple users insist Android users are poor, Android users insist Apple users are stupid. I never understood anyone from either side that makes their phone their personality and the manufacturer their God.

power correlates with longevity, apple can support their devices longer because they don’t do midrange SOCs.

more powerful SOCs will absolutely outlast midrangers from the same generation.

That’s the reason I don’t see basically anyone using the P8P in 7 years. It’s not even impressive by today’s standards and won’t really be able to run their advertised AI stuff on device, that’s gonna get released on the playstore over the next few years.

Well built phones can easily last 5+ years. I’ve been using my OP5T for 6 years now. It was my main for 5+ years. It is not slow by any means, even now. In fact, for most normal users, it would still seem fast enough for daily use. Camera and battery would be the only issues. Similarly, if the battery of P8P lasts (or swap it out) and if they release proper software updates that don’t slow down the device, it can absolutely last 7 years. It might become a second phone for them, or their kids can use it.

That and planned obsolete by ending software support. SOCs have nothing to do with it. Anything after the S20 is pretty much overkill for mobile platforms until they increase the size of ROM storage and release larger sized games.

wrong I can bring my SD8G2 to it’s limits when using many camera features and hearing music in the background, maps navigation etc.

saying everything is overkill now is just wrong

Yeah, that’s why I always get myself midrange phone. I use A54 right now and will use it 'till it’s last update support, was using A50 for like 4 years. I don’t need that much power of a chip and basically will replace it 4 years later.

True and if needed they even keep attached to a single parameter. With previous gen (S23 Ultra vs IPhone 14 Pro) Apple chip was literally beating Snapdragon only in single core performance (by few %) and they kept bragging about it ignoring that multicore performance and graphics performance was better for Samsung (Snapdragon).

    Meh.

What truly matters is the multitasking efficiency and power efficiency of the chip.

The scene of phone gamers don’t make up for any meaningful percent of buyers in the samsung phones. There’s probably better phones out there for that.

I use my phone for work often editing photos and videos on the go. I’m also ADD and jump around between different apps for fun so the phone is constantly pushed pretty hard.

When I’m editing, especially, I can feel the performance difference and apple does have the edge there. However, android has made some huge strides in performance, I prefer my phone operating like a little computer, and I’d rather never support Apple with their predatory business practices ever again.

Well, if samsung really wanted to push samsung Dex, having a chip that is comparable to actual laptop cpu would be advantages.

Also, the A17 is not that good. It’s also not “Apple silicon”. They bought a company and act like they created it.

I just want pro cameras, an efficient chip, and nice form factor. What Samsung is doing with the Plus models having regular cameras and 1080p 393 ppi for $1000 or pay $1200 for the best phone with the (imo) terrible ergonomics is horrible. 6.8 inch… boxy sharp corners.

Did the note ultra form factor sell more units than the old S21 ultra form factor? I’m trying to figure out why.
