Wind Waker is locked at 30fps and made me realize 30fps is actually not terrible (I’m a 60fps minimum person), but when I try to lock Elden Ring (or other games) at 30fps it looks choopier or even SLOWED down?? Sometimes slowed down to where it IS unplayable.

Frametimes fluctuation. Refresh rate miss match. Tailored motion blur effects for 30 fps. And so on.

The steam deck internal fps limiter adds a pretty horrific amount of input lag, so it might be that that you’re referring to? It’s almost universally better to use an in game fps limiter if there is one available

    Frame time consistency mainly.

At 30FPS, any deviation from 33.3ms will look off immediately. Then there’s other factors, like animation quality. Wind Waker’s animations were specifically designed for 30FPS, so you’re not losing any detail in the motion at 30FPS. The same can’t be said for Elden Ring.
