Hi, so I currently have an A71, I bought it in 2020 and it has 3 years. It has been a good phone but now is laggy and it is time to change it.

I can’t decide between those two, right now those are my options.

S23+ at $1,099 (regular price $1,359) or A54 8Gb at $409 (regular price $559)

Of course, I know that the S23+ wins in all aspects like performance, camera, display, size, etc. My question would be if it is worth to pay almost 3 times the price of the A54 to get the S23+?

I would use it for basic stuff like Instagram, YouTube, Spotify, email, etc. No gaming, just casual photos, selfies, occasionally watch a movie in Netflix.

What would be your recommendation? I’m really struggling, I’m not sure to spend 1K in a phone that might get lost or broken (although I really ally take care of my stuff).

Also, I live in Central America, so the things are a little bit pricey here.

Thanks in advance!

No question, the A54 would be the better phone for you. It is like an S23 lite. Not a gamer and not editing videos? The A54 is more than enough. Even if you decide to game sometimes, it can handle most games ok. Not in high graphics settings, and possibly not the best framerates either, but it can play them. Also, you will get an SD card reader which the S23 does not have.

The A54 would likely cover your needs, only you can answer if the S23+ is worth the extra money. You may also want to consider the S23 FE. A 3rd option priced between the other two.

The A54 would be a nice upgrade for my wife from her A51, but she’s all about purple, so I can see an S23 FE in her future.

We’re pretty close to Black Friday so I’ll wait and see what that brings.

Do you know how the S23 FE manages the battery? I had an S22 and the 8Gen1 was an awful processor. It heated up while doing basic tasks and I was lucky if I got more that 4 hours of SoT. I’ve heard the new FE is better optimized, but I’m not sure if that’s enough.

Samsung designed a massive vapor chamber for the s23fe which solves the thermal issues, but I’m not sure how they tweaked it to be more efficient because from reviews it looks like the s23fe is pretty good on battery life.

You’ll be fine with a54 for years to come. I’m living perfectly fine with an A72 and I do everything with my phone, including emulating games up to psp/dremcast/n64

I’d buy a flagship only for the better camera experience and performance. But I’m gonna stay with my phone untill it keeps getting updates tho.

Flagship cameras are no joke, I had a Nikon with really expensive lenses and the S22U cameras performed well - pro mode was very useful although professional cameras will always have a better post-production capabilities and versatility but outside of a studio they are pretty much a burden.

A54 camera on the other hand, is very good you can even say just as good - for everyday use i would get the A54 as it is the most value. Flagships and mid rangers both have a 3-4 year life span.

You should buy the one which covers your needs.

If you just surf the internet and you don’t do heavy tasks, you can buy A54.

On the other hand, flagship phones give you a unique feel.

    So I recommend s23 FE.🙂

If you can tolerate the occassional stutters and lags while using those apps you mentioned then you can go for it. Otherwise if you want a premium amooth experience of both the software and the hardware then go for s23plus but personally I think ypu should go for s23. The S23FE is not worth its current price.

S23fe is not available in my country. I would only ask to not have lag while taking photos. In phones you can take photos so quickly. My A71 can take photos every 3s or so. Is that something is improved in any of those models?
