Im rocking a 8600k here, thinking of upgrading to a 13700k. Thoughts?
what’s your GPU? you wouldn’t want to get an i7 when your GPU is midrange, its an overkill, better with i5
My gpu is 6700XT
7800x3d hands down
14700K would also give you Intel’s new APO feature, currently it works in 2 games, but where it does work over 200 FPS uplift has been reported.
A year from now more games will support it, and you won’t have it if you get less than a 14700K.
I see. Thank you for the information!
The upgrade will cause you to lose your fkg mind. It is an amazing difference. What I would do is get a Z690 or Z790 MB, get a decent 12, 13, 14xxx* processor, gobs of DDR5 RAM, sweet graphics (your choice AMD or Nvidia) and a very fast m.2 drive (7500MB+).
* I would stick with the xx700K or better processors. The xx600s and below are suspect at best for gaming.
Would it be a significant difference?
Significant? When I say you’ll lose your fkg mind, I mean it. I went similar in August. 7700–>13700. It wasn’t just the processor, it was all the other stuff that was upgraded as well. Fast Gen4 m.2; fast DDR5; fast graphics and upgradeable to 14xxx processor (which I might not even do).
IMO, the best upgrade of anything recently is the m.2 drives. Although mine is only Gen4 at 7700MB/s, the new Gen5 is going at 10000MB/s+. It makes booting and applications and … gawd, whatever, just so fast. It’s amazing. GL.
14700K.
Why so?
That would be a good one or the 14700 either way. I have a 2 month old 12700K that I’ll sell you for $200.00 if your interested. I also have a several motherboards that are near new also. Either way the 700 series is a great do it all chip.
Shipping could be a problem. Ahaha
The question is, what’s your purpose for upgrading? It’s a huge factor when deciding.
^^THIS^^^ also its good to know what you use the computer for? upgrade for gaming is VERY different from upgrade for video rendering…
Mainly for gaming and streaming!
Gaming and streaming.
You can go either intel or amd. If it’s just gaming, Ryzen will give you a better upgrade path for lower cost, while still being on top of the list. I’d suggest going 7800x3D. Intel is only a good choice for work/game and some very specific games.
The 7800x3D runs hotter than a 13700k tho
Well, maybe in some rare cases but this one can be cooled by mostly anything. The 3D v-cache feature allows it to run cooler with low latency.
No. Where did you hear that? Heat is generated from Watts. The power draw of the 7800X3D is less than the 13700K.
7800X3D 8 cores 16 threads TDP 120W Actual power draw ~86W 13700K 16 cores 24 threads TDP 125W Max Boost 253W avg power draw 133W peak draw 250W
Tom’s Hardware 7800X3D avg max power draw
The 7800X3D is waaaaaay more efficient and therefore cooler than the 13700K

From this video actually. Temps on the amd cpu are higher
