“…m.2 memory…” - OP
You mean m.2 storage. Yes, it’s that important to understand the differences. I think you’re looking at anecdotal evidence from complaints on the internet.
Can you imagine how many boards are created by ASUS, ASRock, Gigabyte, MSI? Millions is my guess. What you don’t see are millions of complaints. Many complaints are actually the board problem and most are user problems.
If you’re that worried, wait for the 15k-series processors and board. Sometime late 2024 is the rumor. I, myself, find that Z790 based boards absolutely stunningly and feature filled.
Yes. Without doubt, upgrade. Between the m.2 SSD speeds, fast ass RAM and an insane processor … you’ll lose your fkg mind.
I wouldn’t recommend it; however, you can always “try”. Pop on the CPU fan, run your system and keep an eye on temps. If you’re good after hammering it on games or whatever, call it good.
If it gets too hot, yeah, liquid cooling. Look for AIO cooling solution. It’s as easy as installing the CPU fan.
This has absolutely nothing to do with his problem.
It’s against my nature*, but I’d keep the DDR4. You’re talking VMs, so, I’d also try for 128GB unless you’ve already run the numbers.
* I usually tap out the max the MB does at the time.
Significant? When I say you’ll lose your fkg mind, I mean it. I went similar in August. 7700–>13700. It wasn’t just the processor, it was all the other stuff that was upgraded as well. Fast Gen4 m.2; fast DDR5; fast graphics and upgradeable to 14xxx processor (which I might not even do).
IMO, the best upgrade of anything recently is the m.2 drives. Although mine is only Gen4 at 7700MB/s, the new Gen5 is going at 10000MB/s+. It makes booting and applications and … gawd, whatever, just so fast. It’s amazing. GL.
The upgrade will cause you to lose your fkg mind. It is an amazing difference. What I would do is get a Z690 or Z790 MB, get a decent 12, 13, 14xxx* processor, gobs of DDR5 RAM, sweet graphics (your choice AMD or Nvidia) and a very fast m.2 drive (7500MB+).
* I would stick with the xx700K or better processors. The xx600s and below are suspect at best for gaming.
I’m a fan of both the processor and z790 chipset. A bunch of good options.
