Black Friday sales here in New Zealand are coming up from this Friday and I’m thinking about an upgrade from my 9700k.

My current system is:
9700k clocked all cores at 5ghz
32gb DDR4 @ 3200
3080Ti

I game at 1440p (165hz monitor) playing Tarkov, BF, Horizon Zero Dawn and a few others.

Talk me into it… or not. Should I consider another Intel CPU?

7800X3D in NZ is exactly the same price and the motherboards are actually more expensive. From what I’ve read in my research so far the 7800X3D is usually cheaper than the 14700k and I’m not keen based on what I’m hearing about various issues with USB, memory stability and uneven performance.

I just made that exact upgrade and holymoly it was a nice jump. 7700k to 9700k now to 14700k. 2k games are maxed out at 165fps now regardless of the game

Yes. Without doubt, upgrade. Between the m.2 SSD speeds, fast ass RAM and an insane processor … you’ll lose your fkg mind. gif

If you’re only gaming then the 7800x3d is faster in the majority of games, however if you’re doing anything at all that will utilise the cores a 14700k won’t be very far behind in gaming and significantly faster in productivity

New APO feature on 14th gen really closed the game in gaming too up to 20% more performance while using less power just by enabling APO.

100% agree with this. I went from a 9900k to 7800x3D and was shocked how much better games ran. I’m normally Team Blue, but if you’re upgrading now, Team Red is the way.
