Technically it is NVME, since it has the eMMC controller onboard and connects to the APU through PCI-E.

Interesting, stealth upgrade due what stock of ssd they have on hand? I feel like anyone getting a 64gb model is just going to toss the 64gb drive and install a bigger one.

It’s pretty easy to sell out all emmc models. Now they only stick to nvme 😁

Could be. TBH it did sound silly from the first place that they opted for 64gb eMMC instead of actual SSD, when it was in fact just an NVMe drive that has eMMC module instead of NAND flash dies. They probably had to go extra length to procure these wierd storages instead of just buyng 64gb SSDs which were already cheap.

In that regard it is no different from NVMe. Especially since the most common NVMe form factor (M.2) is fundamentally incompatible with rustspinners.

U.2 could theoretically host a rustspinner inside but no one would bother with that vs. SAS or SATA.

Imagine the Redbull RB19 Formula 1 car. This is your NVMe. Now imagine a 1.1 liter Fiat Panda. This is your eMMC.

I think because of the misconception. When the SD was first being released everyone seen Emmc and their first thought was “can’t be upgraded”

I believe they changed it so no one would get confused

Yes, I wondered before they actually shipped if the eMMC would be soldered on the motherboard and the M.2 slot would be absent (with the intent that they were just used wit micro SD cards, if more storage was required).
