I’ve been seeing a lot of posts about how watchOS 10.1 has been killing their batteries. Oddly enough, I feel like I’m on the opposite side of the spectrum here — my S7’s battery life has improved.
When I updated to watchOS 10, I was always hitting 10% by the end of the day, while almost always dying in the afternoon if I did a workout.
After the update? It’s late and I’m still above 40%. This is a 2 year old device that is at 89% battery degradation. I’m impressed.
What I’m curious about is whether there is a complication or a face that is killing everyone’s battery, or if it happens to be that S7 watches are just not affected. Any thoughts?
- So I think the issue folks are reporting is more serious than it’s given credit for. We aren’t talking a slight loss of performance. I went from charging my watch once in the morning to 100% and having 50% when I wake up the next day. Now my device won’t fully charge without overheating, and dies every 3-4 hours. It’s not a slight change, but a very serious issue.
- Same here s8
- My apple watch ultra 2 went from 60% to low battery message within an hour. Will recharge and check again. - I reset mine and set it up as new. It’s better now.
- Make sure your phone is also updated. There is a battery bug that if one of the two devices is not on the new .1 update it will kill your battery quick
- That’s wild. Can you list your complications and do you have AOD enabled?

- Ditto. My AWU2 battery was already great, now it’s even better with 10.1 - How much has it changed? for me it seems like the same currently.

- Major improvement on my SE1
- 10 was prefect no issues battery was good, 10.1 literally killed the battery, or whatever resource was running was consuming the battery crazy. I THINK I finally got it back to normal only after, I had to unpair and pair again without using the back up, doing it as a new watch. The battery is good now, yesterday it was dropping like 2% every 5min with out even using the watch itself. - Same. Had to charge multiple times yesterday. Left it on the charger over night and it only got up to 65%. Thought I was in for another rough day and threw it back on the charger after I did an apple fitness video. At 98% now after getting to 100% around 7. Still need to figure out my cell plan, the reset borked my eSIM.
- Yeah mine is dead in 5 hours, happened yesterday and today’s. Guess I will try to reset. Series 7.

- Same here goes the full 24 hours with aod
- They released two updates back to back and I have no idea what it did better tbh
- SE First Gen. it’s been better, not watchOS 9 levels but getting there! Finally.
- Mine has improved as well!
- Same here. I’m using it on a U2 that replaced a U1, and a Series 8.
- My Ultra 2 can be used for over 50 hours with 10.1. Much improved battery life.
- No issues either with my new SE gen 1
- I saw in the apple forums that battery drain was a big issue. Mine was having a hard time charging and drained very quickly (AWU2). I then reset it, set it up as a new watch and it’s way better now.
- Series 5 here with 85% battery health. My battery life was good yesterday and seems good today so far.
