Hi all,

Ordered a remarkable online that arrived today.

When I played with the device in a store over the weekend, and seeing others posts, I noticed that the pen selector (ie. ball point, fineliner, etc) and the stroke thickness are two seperate options. However, on mine, it’s all combined.

Couldn’t find an option in settings to seperate them, so if anyone knows how I would appreciate it.

Bonus question: I’m looking for a good meeting notes template, can someone recommend one they use? And, how do you load templates onto the tablet? Do I just add it as a pdf?

    They combined the strokes and pen selection into a new “pencil case” that has both in a single box.

    Templates can be loaded as PDFs(but they won’t be like any template on device, but more like a notebook with the template baked into it. so you’ll need to duplicate this PDF everytime you want to use just the template). For a template that shows up like every other one on device, the steps are much more annoying, so it’s best to look for them( remarkable.guide might have it)

    Upgrade the firmware on your tablet.

    My first tablet came with 3.0.something and it was “all combined” like you describe. I upgraded to 3.2.x and then immediately 3.5.x, and since then the “pen selection” and “width selection” choices are separate sections under the “tool selection” menu option. (FWIW my primary tablet is on 3.7.x, and my “experimentation” tablet is on the 3.8.0 beta.)

    As for templates …

    • A template is just a PNG file, 1404x1872 pixels, preferably using the 8-bit grey colour space (so it looks the same on the computer as it does on the tablet).
    • You can upload them by hand, but you also have to manually edit the JSON file that the reMarkable software reads to learn which template files exist and what their properties are (name, orientation, etc.)
    • You can use a program like RCU (which is $12/yr, but does a lot more than just managing templates) or Notable Utility (which is free, but only manages templates) to upload and manage custom templates. I wrote this page about templates before I started using RCU, it has more information and links to a few other resources, including a youtube video which showed me how it was done to begin with.

    they are together as off some updates ago, so probably the one on the store had an old software version
