Hello I have a steam deck coming in by the end of the week and I am not the most tech savvy person in the world! Mostly I want to emulate games on it and maybe the occasional steam game.

I have heard that Decky, vibrant deck and Emudeck are great things to have and there are guides how to install them on YouTube. But I am curious if there are other programs that are good/necessary to have or maybe settings that are good to fiddle with before I start using it?

    First recommendation would be not to open it. Return it. Get an OLED instead. It’s better and cheaper.

    Or contact valve and ask for a partial refund if you want to keep the old model.

    Emudeck and heroic launcher are things i use often. But my favorite purchase for the deck was my silly thumbstick caps and textured decal for the trackpads. For 5$ they add some bulk and texture that i couldn’t be with now.
