In an amazingly sassily titled update, Valve has fixed the color saturation and fan control problems introduced by The OLED Update yesterday.

SteamOS 3.5.3 Preview: The LCD Update
Note: This update is for the Steam Deck Preview channel, and includes new features that are still being tested. You can opt into this in Settings > System > System Update Channel.
- Fixed a regression with color management sliders
- Fixed a fan control regression
The fan was getting very loud for some reason before this regression-fix
Sorry about this, but are we sure the fan problem was solved for LCD Steam Deck in spite of this update? I updated only last night and today my fan seemed unusually noisy, either when I’m simply browsing the OS or when I’m playing a relatively undemanding game like Hollow Knight.
Broke Decky Loader and had to re-enable root password
My Dock also updated today but I can’t find any patchnotes.
Hopefully it finally fixed the audio issues
I kept telling people not to panic, that it was just a borked update, and that the next update would fix it.
I panicked and factory reset my device. Didnt fix it so I panicked more and opened up my device, cracked the screen. I panicked more so I went and joined the line to buy a Steam Deck OLED. Now Im just panicking if I’ll be able to pay off my credit card in time.
Maybe take a breath and consider financial security over buying a non necessity? But you do you i guess
It’s not so much panic as it is frustration. OS 3.5 has been in preview for 2 months, and has been accessible publicly since at least May. There are constant, ongoing bugs that have been reported on for months that do not get mentioned nor addressed, and it’s made running it an exercise in frustration.
I finally went back to stable. Yes, I know, I know, preview is going to have bugs, but when you’re dealing with the same bugs for months on end, and instead of fixes you get even MORE buggy updates? That’s where I say I’ve had enough. I was willing to tinker around and deal with the issues for the new features, but I’m tired of dealing with them. I just want my product to work.
I’ll be back when 3.5 is more stable.
My god, it’s happened people. A comment by deathblade200 which is the most upvoted comment in the thread. I don’t know if I can say I’m proud of you deathblade, but gratz on having something non-confrontational to post for once. Cheers.
DON’T PANIC!
In large friendly letters
so fan is back to quiet-ish, and colors look good again on LCD deck? excited for this release but is it really that much better than 3.4.10 for example?
and is the in house color system better than vibrant deck, and in what way? thanks
The colors are way better than the old one. I couldn’t go back tí the old washed out screen and yes it’s better than Vibrantdeck too.
How do I access the color management? I deleted Vibrant Deck when the update came but still don’t know how to manage it.
Under display>Adjust display colors>Color vibrance.
Edit: set color temperature to 6500k to get the best accuracy.
It’s not there? Do you need to be in preview? I’m in beta channel rn
Is there any loss in detail? Seems odd these didn’t come configured that way if it’s just a small tweak…
The fan isn’t as bad as the OLED update, but I find it still kicks in at times when it never used to
If you play in Desktop mode this may be caused by KDE services, such as the Search Indexer.
Don’t play in desktop mode unless you know what it clearly involves in the background
Anyone on that branch, how stable is the update now? I’m tempted to switch from stable
I am a daily user and I have the following issues:
- Steam Link does not work with Android devices (including Android TV) on Gamemode
- Sometimes desktop has color errors
- This is always fixed after a reboot
- This should be fixed with 3.5.1, but it still happens sometimes
- Big picture mode does not work on desktop mode
- I think this is a bug in the newest Steam Beta Client and not Steam OS
Also, I heard that Steam OS does not boot with custom boot videos via Decky Loader. Custom boot videos via Steam work without any issues.
