I had been saving for one and was waiting for the next sale to come around (I missed the one in September by accident) and when I saw the price drop I knew it was time! My steam deck arrives tomorrow, happy almost Nov 16th!

I have a bit of leftover cash for accessories, obviously a microSD is first on my list, drop any other recs below! I’m looking at cases & docks now.

I just picked up a refurbished 512g LCD deck. Looks great so far though I haven’t done much more than initial setup. Hope you enjoy it!

Having never purchased a Steam Deck, my time has come.

Sucks for all the peeps that bought an LCD Steam Deck before the announcement.

Maybe a stupid question, if I plan on mainly playing docked. Would OLED version make a difference?

I’m using mine to stream in 4K 60fps, docked most of the time, but that’s cause I have a pc that can run those settings, and a fast internet connection.

I don’t know what to expect as far as output resolution and frame rates if it’s just running games natively when docked, but I know your results will vary depending on the game you’re playing and how power hungry/graphically intensive it is.

In addition to the thermal/memory performance improvement, they also upgraded the bluetooth a bit which may be useful for docked mode. They added an extra dedicated bluetooth antenna on the top of the device to work better in docked mode and with multiple controllers. You can also now wake the device from a bluetooth controller instead of having to push the power button. It now supports the aptX low latency codec as well, although last time I went shopping for that 5 years ago, device support was pretty rare.

I just purchased a Skull & Co case and love it. I’m also new to the accessories, so I can’t give a recommendation on which dock, but I did see that some of the docks have different ports - look out for that.

I really wish I waited to buy my steam deck since I saw the announcement for the oled two days past my return window. However, The base steam deck is still a really good machine, and if that is all you can afford, don’t feel bad about it. I’m still teaching myself to not immediately buy shit just because I can lol. I will agree with what some other people have posted and suggest looking at a used one for a huge discount though.

I am also torn, I think today I will not be waiting for that ‘buy now’ button to go live, I need to think it better.

It is 200 € difference which is a lot for me right now.

I’ve been on the fence about buying a Steam Deck for a while. Then the OLED was announced and so I felt the LCD version I was eyeing off anyway became much more justifiable due to the massive price drop!

I got the 64gb original. 310 quid (and another 30 on a microsd) or 480 quid for the OLED. I have a decent gaming laptop and a PS5 for the more intensive games so I didn’t see the OLED as being worth paying 30% more.

Idk why y’all tossing out your old steam deck anyways. At the rate I see problems on this subreddit, you might as well wait for your current deck to frag itself, THEN buy the OLED.
