Struggling with refurb 64GB vs 512GB OLED. Will play 90%+ handheld. Will play indie games (Hades, Hollow Knight, Dave the Diver, Children of Mortal, etc) 90%+ of the time. The only non-indie game I can think of that I’ll play now is Witcher 3.

I know there are a lot of updates with the OLED, but based on what I’ll use it for, it seems like the fact that it’s OLED vs LCD is the only meaningful update, and know that it feels like a $250 price difference is a lot.

I feel like improved battery life won’t be a big deal for me based on the games I play, and I also don’t play for more than 1-2 hours at a time anyway. Is 90FPS that much of a better experience than 60FPS?

Is there anything else I’m missing for how I’ll use the Deck? If there are meaningful improvements to the experience based on how I’ll use it, then I could see going for the OLED, but if it’s just OLED vs LCD then I’m not sure it’s worth an extra $250… thanks!!

OLED. I have Switch OLED and Deck LCD and difference in screen quality is insane. It will make a huge difference in Hades and especially Hollow Knight (didn’t play other listed games).

Plus letterboxing on OLEDs is so good you can basically have native 16:9 display, a lot of indies force this aspect ratio and you end up with black glowing bars o LCD.

I’d say OLED (with 90hz) will make the biggest difference in indie games actually.

And it’s convenient to have a handheld with long battery life, you don’t have to worry about plugging it in often. Even if you play 1 or 2 hours at the time.

I think it comes down to your own budget. I’m in the same spot in terms of what I plan to use the Deck for, and ended up going with the LCD refurb to save money. The OLED screen looks amazing, but all things considered my budget-conscious mind can’t justify $230-250 for that and the other QOL upgrades. I’ll have years of fun with my perfectly ordinary screen and 60 fps indies.

Depends how picky you are about the screen you stare at, I don’t personally care if my screen is a little less contrasted and colorful.
