I had Cyberpunk on my Steam Deck when I put it to sleep a couple days ago. I turned it on today, having totally forgot I was in game. I stared at a nightclub on my screen, dumbfounded, as I was expecting the main menu.
I hadn’t even paused the game when I put my Deck to sleep. I just hit the power button and could play instantly. I still had 30% charge from having played earlier because I didn’t even plug the thing in.
What a total shock.
Switch users: You’re new here huh
Oh yeah. Comes very handy for games like Armored Core, where you get super far into a level then have to go, but can’t save your progress manually. Just put it in sleep mode 😊
I leave it for weeks at a time.
Right? The only time my deck ever gets turned off is when it is updating.
I usually don’t close games if they have an ass launcher. Was great when I was playing Mass Effect and EA fucked up the launcher and I just suspended it every time I was done playing. Think I played the entirety of Mass Effect 3 like that and not a single crash!
Shouldn’t really be surprising though as a sleep mode should use minimal power. PS Vita and switch sleep mode also tend to last a very long time
Some games never quit right and some games quit pretty fast? I play Dishonored 2 and if I put it to sleep for a few minutes it quits the game (back on SD home). I gotta use the Deck pause plugin to stop it.
What dictates if a game can be paused in sleep mode?
I know some games that need an internet connection will send you back to the main menu but what about the ones that dont?
I don’t think it matters what you had open when you are in standby mode. So AAA or other stuff it would likely be similar.
Used to leave my Vita on standby for like 3 weeks, come back and it’s still on 75% battery ❤️
How’s it play native on the deck? It’s going to be my next game for sure.
Plan to mix home streaming and running it native (hopefully).
Putting a PC to sleep is going to use power to keep the RAM refreshed but that’s pretty much it. So it doesn’t matter what the PC was doing, it’s not going to have an impact here.
The downside is the PC can’t actually do stuff while asleep while ARM can do things in low power mode like download stuff in the background.
The Battery discharge with around 10% per day on standby.
