  • Just got my refurb 64gb a few days ago, first ever deck. Tried out a handful of games playing at 60fps, they all felt good (except for fps games where precise aiming is crucial). Saw this latest news about the oled and read people were intentionally capping at 30 fps and I wondered why, but figured it was for battery or maybe the game doesn’t need 60 fps to enjoy.

So I tried playing those same games at 30 fps cap and I absolutely felt the sluggishness of a lot of them. It felt like I was throwing punches in my dream. Not necessarily unplayable, but definitely made me want to go back to the 60 fps fluidity and only resort to 30 fps caps if I absolutely had to for whatever reason, and even then I could adjust more or less to the slowdown.

I skimmed this video and there seemed to be an improvement on the input lag on the oled, Is it enough of an improvement that games capped at 30 fps would no longer feel sluggish, or would it be marginally better, or are those two different issues entirely? For example Binding of Isaac at 30 fps, a second in game is about 1.5 seconds realtime. Would 30fps on the oled play at full speed? Another jarring game I tried was Crypt of the Necrodancer and N++. Also noticed the delay in using the mouse at 30 vs 60, coming from a 165hz desktop. Are those improved on the oled at lower fps caps?

I guess I just don’t fully understand the improvements mentioned in this video and how they’d impact real world use

I have a week left in my return window and if my favorite game (BOI) can play at full speed at 30 fps, and other games play with noticeably less input delay, I’d want to opt for the oled. But I don’t want to return the refurb 64gb and miss out on the great value it was if the performance increase is negligible. I saw a lot of % improvements were tossed around, but sometimes numbers can be misleading and they don’t amount to actual noticeable differences, but I’m also not knowledgeable about this topic to fully understand
