I use a cheap USB-C hub that automatically outputs video to my TV independently of when any cable is plugged. I don’t know why that’s happening to you.
I also have a 8bitdo SN30 PRO. I use it in Switch mode and didn’t have any problems with it. In Switch mode you have Gyro, which I believe X-Input doesn’t have (someone else may confirm). Since the games will be receiving Steam Input I don’t think it matters that much which mode you choose.

Nope. Got it a week before the autumn sale on a bundle with Dishonored 2. It was R$14,56 which is close to 2,95USD. Amazing price.
Not quite. But I did ditch building a desktop PC or buying a gaming laptop in favor of the Steam Deck.
Where I live the costs would be close, whatever option I choose. The form factor was the deciding factor.

Just that. The software part is always improving, bugs and issues being corrected even in the current model, so we just need to be patient with those.
It’s not a perfect device but I’m pretty happy with it already as it is.

Windows is useful if you want to play Online Multiplayer games with Anti-cheat. It also makes it easier if you wanna install games outside of Steam.
I’ve used Windows for about 6 months on my Deck. It’s ok. But I wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t want to play those anti-cheat games. The experience on SteamOS is just much nicer. Besides the system is regularly updated and there’s Shader Pre-Cache for Steam games. Windows barely receives any driver updates.
Considering the Steam Controller is somewhat of a “prototype” for the Steam Deck controller it makes perfect sense to use them both together. I wish I could get one. I use the Ultimate 8bitdo controller, which is great, but I do miss the trackpads when playing docked to my TV.
Yes, it should. Even when I was using Windows 11 the video output going to the TV was automatic. The audio was messed though. I had to either restart the Deck while already plugged or Troubleshoot the audio every time.
Did you change any video configuration regarding multiple monitors either on Desktop Mode or Game Mode? Have you checked that?
