What we will get is multiple app stores under the App Store app. Sideloading runs a very risk of injecting malware unless Apple is willing to introduce the iOS equivalent of Windows Defender we’ve seen since Windows 8.0, in my opinion.

What I foresee is iMessage in blue bubble, SMS in green bubble and RCS in orange bubble when running the iOS Messages app in the future.

But is it the GSMA-standard RCS? That could be an issue because Google added quite a bit of its own proprietary code to the RCS app used on Android phones. The Android RCS app has to be back in GSMA compliance to work with the update to the iOS Messages app.

Watch for an iOS 17.x version to support at least the GSM standard RCS possibly by April-May 2024.
