  • A hotfix went out for this issue last week. Would take System updates and see if this is resolved. You can alternatively switch your USB port to “XHCI” mode.

    • From S5 (shut off), hold Vol+, and short press power button.
    • Choose “Setup Utility”
    • Select Advanced > USB Configuration > USB Dual Role Device > XHCI

  • Just to be clear, you’re sleep/shutting down the deck while connected to the dock, correct?

Your display’s model number will be on the back (generally) on the sticker near the input ports. Alternatively, you could go to Desktop mode and see if the model number is shown in Display settings. It’s also useful to know what the behavior is in desktop mode when this is happening. If you’re able to extend to the external display in Desktop, but not in gamescope, that’s a good data point.

  • I’m looking at this issue now, but in the meanwhile, try this short term workaround:

Cold boot (from shutdown) while docked, or, if you get into this mode, try doing a quick sleep/wake of your device.

Let me know if that does/doesn’t help, and if you still have trouble, please post your display model number, which display connector (and cable, if convenient) you’re using. It helps with reproducing symptoms on my end.

https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/4C18-08B5-DEC9-3AF4 As another user mentioned, the reset procedure from the support article above is another good thing to try. Since the dock can be powered directly from the Steam Deck itself, if a bad setting or mode gets set, it can be “remembered” even when power cycling with the USB-C power supply. Make sure to unplug Deck + PSU when resetting.

  • Hello,

If you’re still experiencing this problem, try holding down the QAM “(…)” + VOL- buttons down for ~10s, or until you hear the beep-boop. This will reset the controller boards and the power contract.

Select the “previous x” option and you should be able to reboot. Double check you’re on the stable branch in Steam > Settings > System.

Sorry you ran into this, shoot me a PM if you can’t get up and running!
