  • -Modded minecraft, probably the most amazing game ever created, and then perfected by mods. Needs a proper control scheme in steam to play on the deck. Playable through prism launcher on the discover app repository.

-Stardew Valley, a really good farming simulator/rouge lite, also one of the best games ever made. Great on the deck.

-Modded fallout 4 is probably the funnest action RPG I have ever played. The base game is pretty decent. Plays great on the deck.

-Nova Aetus mod for mount and blade warband. One of my favorite games of all time, with this amazing mod. Too much to explain. Needs a proper control scheme on deck, or a mouse and keyboard.

-Rimworld, dark colony sim meets tower defense and hardcore futuristic scifi world building that is great. A bit cumbersome on the deck because of the mouse heavy interface.

-Borderlands 2, a great little grindy shoot and loot. Fun co-op game. Great on deck.

For minecraft modpacks, i recommend the 1.7.10 pack on technic, for 1.7 and ATM 8 from curseforge for 1.9.

  • I use mine for everything I use a computer for. Windows has become very unbearable. I connected a windows PC to my hotspot for a few hours to fix some stuff, turned on “metered connecton”, and… 1/3rd of my data is gone. Wtf. This whole, we will tell the user what they will and won’t do really pisses off. You cant even disable updates anymore.

Steam OS needs some tweaking to make it more into a PC. It has a read only file system that doesnt work well with software not installed as flatpacks. You can work around this, but when steamdeck becomes a bit more stable and mature, there will be some cool drop in replacements of modified steam OS that basically give you a full desktop operating system in desktop mode.

  • The steamdeck uses alot of data because it updates shaders like everyday. Playing multiplayer doesnt use much data, but the updates will. I wouldnt recommend getting internet with data caps. Its a scam anyways.

Hotspots are just wifi routers with shitty software. The only real issue is most hotspots dont have normal router features like port forwarding, which can be an issue if you are wanting to host something, like a game server, or a web server, but even lan networking is broken on many hotspots. It is still however just a regular internet access point that does most of the same things, just not very configurable. You can still use it as long as you are initiating connections, since you cannot open ports on most hotspots.

  • Scalpers basically. They probably do go on sale for cheaper on places like ebay sometimes but they will quickly be bought up to be resold at a higher price.

I would just buy a new one if you can’t find a used one for like half the price. I would just buy new anyways so you have the warranty and there isnt any wear to the device. There is no way to really know how well its been taken care of.
