  • either because it became too expensive to manufacture, or because something else is coming down the pipeline.

It’s neither of these. I know the 4090 FE was being produced by Foxconn in China because their stamp along with the customs stamp were on the box when I bought it from Best Buy (it came in the shipping packaging direct from Foxconn factory still intact with the retail packaging inside that).

This ban also means no more making the cards in China too since the chips can’t be shipped there, so that’s absolutely going to fuck with production for a time as they need to find a new location to assemble the cards and get all those logistics in place. Maybe some of the AIB cards weren’t being assembled in China, but I doubt it.

  • This is the dumbest shit I’ve heard in a while. As long as AMD dominates the console graphics segment and makes decent money on that, they will role over the tech into consumer cards for a bit of extra cash. There’s no reason not to, the AIB partners are doing most of the additional work beyond drivers.

Consumer cards are a bonus for AMD, their bread and butter in the graphics space are consoles and to a growing degree AI / data center space (though Nvidia still has a huge lead there, but it’s sooo lucrative who cares?). As long as profits on consumer cards are acceptable up the chain, they’ll continue even if Nvidia has 80%+ market share.
