The tomb raider survivor trilogy seems to be at or right under $10.
I’m currently lost/immersed in the second chapter of rdr2. I know there’s a story but it’s a game that lets you make your own way in a world that’s huge and alive. Of course the story apparently is incredible, I’ve just paused to become a roaming hunter gambler.
I’d say your answer may be environmental. Modern day nyc or 1897 US frontier or futuristic.
I picked up Battlefield 1 on sale and thought it was a really good single player campaign, especially for the money (~$7.50?), and I didn’t think I’d like WW1 as much as I did. Definitely recommend.
RDR1, but I want to find a good WW2 flight combat to add as well. My 2DS XL can essentially do anything up to PS1, and now the deck takes me the rest of the way.
